Le Marembert is situated in the Berry region of central France. A countryside full of forests, lakes and historic châteaux.
Not far along the road towards La Châtre, is a wooded area, with deer and wild boar (pigs with attitude!) if you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of one.
"We saw two little piglets running down the middle of the road. We stopped to let them go by, and they tried to get into our car door! Thank goodness, 'Mother' didn't turn up……I heard my husband mutter something about "a barbeque" ……!!"
We are just 8 km from Sainte Sévère, a small market town, with a centuries old market hall. Its' claim to fame is the film featuring Jacques Tati, 'Jour de Fête'.
La Châtre, is a larger market town situated 22 km away. It is a beautiful french town, full of architecturally fascinating buildings. It has a bustling Saturday market, with a typical french feel. Here the locals congregate to enjoy a coffee or a beer at the local cafe, alongside the variety of stalls, catering from fruit and vegetables to china and cheese.
The romantic writer, George Sands, had her house in Nohant-Vic, which is now a museum dedicated to her novels and her life . It is open for visitors, and makes an interesting day out.
There is a golf course 12 km away at Poligny-Notre-Dame.
Paris is a four hour drive away, as is Spain, Italy, Switzerland or Belgium.
