Description

The Glenforsa Hotel captures the spirit of Mull and is a perfect rural holiday retreat, the mountain and sea blend together to give a fantastic panoramic view of the Sound of Mull. From the vantage point of the elevated observation lounge, you will frequently spot Sea Eagles, Seals and Otters along the shoreline.
The Glenforsa Hotel, is a 15-room Norwegian wooden log hotel, imported from Norway and built in 1968, and has been owned and run by Allison and Brendan Walsh since 2004.

Glenforsa, (Norse for Glen of the Swiftly-flowing river) is ideally situated on the sheltered East coast of Mull at the narrow waist of the Island, making it a great base to explore, visit Tobermory to the north, the sacred Island of Iona to the south, the Treshnish Isles and the remarkable little Island of Staffa and its famous Fingal’s Cave, the inspiration for composer Mendelssohn’s, Hebridean Overture.

Mull is the third-largest island off the British Isles, with a land area of 353 square miles, but with a tiny population of fewer than 3,000. (Compare this with Jersey – 45 square miles and 90,000 residents!). Outdoors pursuits include angling, bird watching and hill walking, Ben More at 3,169ft, our only Munro, is a mere twelve miles away.

The Sound of Mull is a deep trench carved by retreating glaciations that separated Mull from the mainland Scotland some twelve thousand year’s ago. The mountains of Morvean and Ardnamurchan are mirrored in the ever-changing waters away to the north.
Best savoured from the comfort of an armchair in the Sky Lounge.

Glenforsa Airfield is Mull’s only airfield and sits between the Hotel and the Sound of Mull. Suitable for light aircraft only, it is superbly maintained
grass strip over 730 meters in length. Patrons who bring their own
aircraft have ample safe parking facilities adjacent to the Hotel.
Oban’s Airport Connel is only ten minutes flying time away and has aviation fuel; Glenforsa’s runway is east/west – Connel's north/south.

Craignure, Mull’s main ferry-terminal with Oban, is ten miles to the southeast, the service;
Caledonian MacBrayne operates a forty-five
minute sailing from Oban.

The hotel has 14 well-appointed twin / double rooms, 13 en-suite and one with a private bathroom.
We offer in our Dining room traditional Scottish food using fresh local produce and also a number of specials each day.
It is not unusual to see wild salmon, Mull oysters, fresh lobsters and seafood, locally caught trout or Scotch, Highland beef on the menu.
Cosy and comfortable Scandanavian style cabins with all amenities.
